Turning 'Taisho Chic'

The Art Gallery of NSW will host an exhibition of Japanese art entitled 'Taisho Chic: Japanese modernity, nostalgia and deco' from May 22. Having already toured various galleries around Japan, the NSW venue will host its only Australian exhibition. Featuring some 70 paintings, prints, textiles and decorative arts from the Taisho period (1912-26), 'Taisho Chic' evokes the struggle and search for balance between Western-style modernity and Japanese tradition.
